Principal's Message
Dear Flushing High School Community,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write to introduce myself as the Interim Acting Principal of Flushing High School. I am deeply honored to join this remarkable community and look forward to meeting our students, staff, families, and community partners. Flushing High School is a unique and extraordinary school, distinguished by the dedication of its educators, the aspirations of its students, and the unwavering commitment of its families and community. I am proud to become part of this tradition and to contribute to the continued success of our school.
Before looking ahead, I would like to take a moment to recognize and sincerely thank Principal Jassica Lee for her service and leadership to Flushing High School over the past year. Her dedication to our students, staff, families, and school community is deeply appreciated. Leadership is a collective journey, and I am grateful for the foundation she has helped strengthen during her tenure. I look forward to building upon the work already underway and continuing the progress that has been made on behalf of our students.
For nearly three decades, I have had the privilege of calling the New York City Department of Education my professional home. Throughout my career, I have served in a variety of roles, including bilingual teacher, grade advisor, Assistant Principal, founding principal of several high schools and middle schools, and, most recently, Senior Compliance Performance Specialist with the Office of Multilingual Learners/English Language Learners. Over the course of twelve years as a school principal, I have learned that effective leadership begins with relationships, is strengthened through collaboration, and remains centered on one fundamental question: What is best for our students?
I embrace the mission of Flushing High School to “instill within its students the academic, social, and emotional skills required to be successful in college and careers.” This mission reflects my own belief that every student deserves access to rigorous instruction, meaningful opportunities, strong relationships, and the support necessary to realize their fullest potential.
As I begin this journey, I am eager to listen and learn from the many educators, students, families, and community members whose hard work has contributed to the accomplishments of Flushing High School. I look forward to a year defined by inquiry, civic engagement, collaboration, and learning. Together, we will focus on accelerating learning and instruction and advancing equity for all students. I am committed to partnering with families as valued and equal collaborators, listening carefully to the voices of our students and staff, and ensuring that every student experiences inclusive, rigorous, and engaging instruction.
We enter this school year at a time of significant change and uncertainty. Our communities continue to navigate challenges that extend beyond the classroom, including social, economic, and geopolitical circumstances that affect our students and families. In times such as these, our schools must remain places of stability, opportunity, belonging, and hope. Flushing High School must continue to be a community where every student feels seen, supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed.
My goals for this year are clear: to ensure that every student is prepared to reach their highest potential and successfully transition from high school to the next chapter of their educational and professional journey, whether that pathway leads to college, career, technical education, military service, or other postsecondary opportunities. Achieving this vision requires a true partnership among administrators, teachers, counselors, support staff, families, students, and community partners.
With your continued support, we will inspire our students to dream boldly, pursue their aspirations courageously, and understand that their voices and contributions matter. As Congressman John Lewis reminded us, “You must be bold, brave, and courageous and find a way to get in the way.” Let us embrace that spirit together. Let us be bold. Let us be brave. Let us be united. Each of us has a role to play, and every voice has a place in shaping the future of Flushing High School.
As I transition into this role, I will schedule town hall meetings throughout September to listen to your goals, concerns, ideas, and aspirations for our school. These conversations will be an important first step in establishing a shared vision for the year ahead. I look forward to working collaboratively with our students, families, teachers, and staff to create innovative, meaningful, and dynamic opportunities that strengthen our school community.
I believe deeply in the power of hope, the importance of relationships, and the transformative power of a united school community. Together, we have an opportunity to write the next chapter of Flushing High School's story—one grounded in excellence, equity, achievement, belonging, and opportunity for every student.
In closing, I extend my heartfelt welcome to the entire Flushing High School community. I welcome your ideas, your partnership, your questions, and your honest and constructive feedback throughout the year. Your voices are essential to shaping the future of our school, and I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving as your Interim Acting Principal.
